To celebrate its 30th anniversary, as well as to gently encourage gamers to install its Uplay software, Ubisoft has announced that it is to give away a game from its back catalogue every month until the end of the year beginning with Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.
Taking a leaf from rival EA's On The House promotional series, Ubisoft's Ubi 30 aims to take gamers on a journey of some of the company's greatest hits - and, naturally, to increase the user base of its digital distribution and digital rights management (DRM) platform Uplay while it's at it. From now to the end of the year, Ubisoft has promised to release a game from its back catalogue for free each month - with games, once claimed, available to download, install and play at any time from the user's Uplay catalogue.
The Ubi 30 offers begin this month with classic time-bending platformer Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, a title which builds on Jordan Mechner's classic franchise with a three-dimensional layout and a clever time-rewinding mechanic. So far, Ubisoft hasn't announced which game will replace Prince of Persia next month nor on its plans for the remainder of the year - but starting with Prince of Persia suggests it is planning a tour of its most well-known franchises.
The game is available now for members of the free Ubisoft Club with Uplay installed, with more details available on the
official website.
