The first details of The Witcher 3 have been revealed with the preliminary release date marked for 2014.
The third instalment of CD Projekt Red's highly successful and popular RPG series' full title is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and it will apparently be the final chapter in the series.
According to Game Informer, it will be available on PC and "all high-end platforms available", heavily implying that it will be launched on as-yet unannounced hardware that will mark the next console generation.
The Witcher 3 will take the non-linear plotlines and player-driven decisions and place it in an open world that will be approximately 30 times larger than its predecessor, using a new game engine that CD Projekt Red will debut with the title.
The developers are also boasting that the whole game will be played without any loading screens making an appearance along the way.
A new monster information-gathering mechanic will be introduced to help players better prepare for their looming fights and inventory and crafting systems will be overhauled.
The Witcher games are based on a series of books by Polish author Andrezej Sapkowski. Following monster-hunter-for-hire Geralt, the first game was released in 2007 for PC with the sequel launching in 2011 for PC and making its way to Xbox 360 a year later.
Whereas the first Witcher title ran on a modded version of Biware's Aurora Engine, the sequel featured CD Projekt Red's own creation. The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings was voted by Bit-Tech readers as 2012's game of the year thanks to its critically applauded enhanced edition release.
