Ubisoft has confirmed that its upcoming third-person multiplayer shooter Tom Clancy's The Division has suffered a schedule slip, with the plan now being to release the game some time in 2015.
The game, which combines tactical gameplay, third-person shooting and role-playing elements as teams try to restore order in a near-future post-apocalyptic New York, was originally announced
back in June last year and given an impressive demonstration video showing off the capabilities of its Snowdrop engine
in March. Originally, Ubisoft had intended to get the game on the market in the fourth quarter of this year - but that has been scuppered by a need to improve its quality ahead of launch.
'
Working on The Division is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of us at Massive, Reflections, and Red Storm Entertainment. We are creating something we are really proud of and we don't want to compromise on quality. We are going to release the game when it's ready,' claimed the development team in a statement regarding the delay. '
We want to thank you again for the exceptional ongoing support. Community is at the heart of what we are doing and we’re very much designing the game with you in mind, so your involvement means a lot to us. The production is getting stronger every day and we can't wait to show you what we’ve been up to at this year’s E3.'
The shift sees the title's three launches - Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC - being pushed back to some time in 2015. Ubisoft has not yet given a firm date - or even tied it down to a particular quarter of the year - giving it plenty of wiggle room should the game hit further snags. The delay follows a similar six-month shift to the release schedule of Ubisoft's Watch Dogs, originally planned as a launch title for the Xbox One and PS4.
