Warren Spector, System Shock: Remastered Edition is designed as a complete ground-up rebuild of the classic cyberpunk shooter using a modern engine but without taking away any of the things fans loved about the original. At the time, Night Dive - the founder of which, Stephen Kick,
negotiated for the rights to the franchise following the closure of Looking Glass Studios - was
light on details, but the company has now confirmed that it will be relying on crowd-funding to get the job done.
'
After two decades, we are remastering and re-imagining the original System Shock. We will keep the new game true to the classic experience, keeping all the things you loved, while updating the user interface and graphics to use a modern day engine (Unity),' claimed Night Dive in an update to the
official website entitled '
Coming soon to Kickstarter.' 'With the help of the original concept artist, the original vision of the Citadel Station and its inhabitants will finally come back to life.'
Night Dive has yet to announce a launch date for the Kickstarter campaign or the game itself.
