Ron Gilbert has left Double Fine Productions following the release of The Cave to pursue other projects.
'It's time for me to move on from Double Fine and plot my next move,' said Gilbert on his blog, Grumpy Gamer. 'I want to thank all the amazing people at Double Fine for all their hard work on The Cave. It was a true pleasure to work with every one of them over the past two years.'
Gilbert joined Double Fine in 2010 after leaving Hothead Games once his previous title, DeathSpank, was finished. His history with Double Fine studio head Tim Schafer dates back to the first two Monkey Island games, which Gilbert wrote for.
'Sad to say @grumpygamer feels like it's time to spread his grumpy wings and fly. Good luck, Ron! Thanks for the Cave!' Tweeted Schafer.
The next game for the veteran developer will be an iOS title called Scurvy Scallywags in the Voyage to Discover the Ultimate Sea Shanty: A Musical Match-3 Pirate RPG. He is working with DeathSpank co-creator Clayton Kauzlaric on the project.
The Cave, which blended together platforming and adventure game elements, was released earlier this year to a moderate critical reception.
Gilbert will also be issuing a 45 minute keynote at PAX Australia this year.
