THQ has announced a sequel to last year's
Red Faction: Guerrilla, dubbed
Red Faction: Armageddon, which is set for release in March 2011 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
The official debut trailer for
Red Faction: Armageddon is viewable below.
Armageddon seems to be a dramatic departure in tone from the previous, open-ended shooter based on the surface of Mars - though it will retain the focus on blowing up very big things and watching them fall over.
Armageddon will cast players as Darius Mason, grandson of
Guerrilla's protaganist, Alec. The plot revolves around the fact that Darius accidentally unleashes a Martian force on the planet and must fight to contain it.
Judging from the trailer, much of the game seems to be set underground, with Darius trying to save fellow humans from Alien hands/tentacles/psychic forcefields.
Armageddon will use an updated form of the GeoMod 2.0 technology that powered the physical interactions in
Guerrilla and boasts new multiplayer modes to boot.
