Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number has hit yet another delay, with the team behind the top-down splatter-fest warning that it will now arrive some time towards the end of the year or start of the next.
The
original game was extremely well-received by critics for its blend of vintage pixel-art visuals, great soundtrack and iconic setting, even while its over-the-top violence put many off. Its sequel, then, is highly anticipated, but its developer Dennaton - which used an off-the-shelf game-maker package to create the original - has already sailed past the original launch deadline of September 2014.
Now, the team behind the franchise have warned that the title still needs a little more work. '
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is still getting some final tweaks and polish,' a post to the game's
official Twitter account read last night, '
[and is] expected to be ready for late 2014 or early 2015. Your patience is appreciated and will ultimately be rewarded with everything you hoped for and nothing like what you expected.'
The team is still working to build up a buzz around the game, including a preview of the title in Brazil which stirred up controversy on Twitter for
allowing young children to play the hyper-violent work-in-progress. That particular misjudgement, excused by the game's creators as '
their parents were there,' comes on the back of heavy criticism surrounding a scene which
heavily implied rape.
