Mirror's Edge Catalyst, the sequel to innovative sci-fi parkour-'em-up Mirror's Edge, has been bumped by three months for some last-minute polish.
Poorer than expected sales for the original Mirror's Edge had led publisher Electronic Arts to
cancel plans for a sequel back in 2011, a decision it
almost immediately began second-guessing thanks to input from the game's vocal fan-base. In June 2013 the company
confirmed it was working on a sequel before announcing back in May that Mirror's Edge Catalyst
would launch in February 2016.
Sadly, that date proved too ambitious, and the company has had to give the game a schedule bump for some last-minute spit and polish. '
We’re building the most immersive action-adventure game with fluid movement and combat in first person. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will be an all-new playground with a deeper and more engaging story - and we want to accomplish all these goals to the highest quality possible,' claimed senior producer Sara Jansson in
explanation of the delay.
'
So we’ve made the decision to bring Mirror’s Edge to the world starting May 24, 2016. We will use these few extra months to make sure that when you step into the massive City of Glass and experience the rise of Faith, it’s as entertaining, impressive, and memorable as it can be.'
Jansson's use of 'starting' suggests that the game will be receiving a staggered international release, but formal dates have yet to be confirmed.
