Bethesda has announced that it is bringing deathmatch and private match modes to its reboot of subsidiary id Software's classic first-person shooter Doom, confusingly also called Doom, in an update due to land on September 13th.
The Doom reboot, launched earlier this year, has gathered
considerable praise from critics. Despite some classic FPS action blended with some more modern unlockable elements, though, fans of the original ray-casted franchise had at least one cause to complain: the game launched without the classic free-for-all deathmatch mode which had made the original, played over IPX LAN connections or via dial-up services like DWANGO, such a hit.
Thankfully, that's changing. Free Update 3, which as the name suggests is the third in a string of content updates available to all Doom owners free of charge, is set to bring deathmatch support, alongside the ability to create private multiplayer matches with customised settings. '
You’ll also be able to adjust settings like the time limit, score limit, or turning demons and power weapon off or on,' explained Bethesda's Jason Leavey in a
blog post announcing the update.
Leavey also teased an entirely new game variant, dubbed Arcade Mode, which is due to arrive later this year in another Free Update release. A teaser for the new modes, along with a link to the launch livestream, is available in the below video.
