Larian Studios has announced that its break-out role-playing game success Divinity: Original Sin is coming to console, thanks to a freshly-overhauled Enhanced Edition.
Raising just shy of $1 million on crowd-funding site Kickstarter back in 2013, Divinity: Original Sin launched last year to
considerable critical success. Now, the Belgian company Larian Studios has promised to make the game even better with the release of the Enhanced Edition. This new version of the game will, the company has stated, include full voice acting for all characters by '
AAA-voice actors,' new content including additional quests and characters, new gameplay modes and character builds, a rewritten story with new ending, improved visuals and audio, and '
much more to be announced in the coming months.'
The biggest change for the Enhanced Edition will be in its supported platforms: the game will launch for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, as well as introducing controller support for the PC builds suitable for use with SteamOS-based consoles. The game will not, however, be available for last-generation consoles, nor Nintendo's comparatively underpowered Wii U.
Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition is described by the company as '
a completely separate game, not an update' with a revamped engine. The result is that saved games cannot be transferred between the existing edition and the Enhanced Edition, while the Windows build will be exclusively compatible with 64-bit installations and DirectX11. Larian has good news for existing owners of the game, though: all owners of Divinity: Original Sin will receive the Enhanced Edition free of charge when it launches, and will be able to install both version side-by-side on Windows, OS X and Linux if they should so choose.
