Square Enix has confirmed plans for a new entry in the Deus Ex franchise, dubbed Mankind Divided, following the leaking of several screenshots relating to the game this week.
Following the publication of details regarding the game on the Russian site
Kanobu, Square Enix confirmed that it is to shortly unveil details regarding Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, the direct sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution. In details provided to
Game Informer in exchange for a cover feature, the company confirmed that the title is set in 2029, two years after Human Revolution, and stars the previous protagonist Adam Jensen - clarifying that the (mild spoiler follows) ending of Human Revolution involving his death are to be considered non-canon, and instead the 'official' ending had augmented humans going on the attack.
As with Human Revolution, and the original Deus Ex before it, the game focuses on the abilities enabled by cybernetic augmentation. The skills and functions from Human Revolution are expected to make a comeback, but with additional new tricks including more stealth features and a 'nanoshield' augmentation - both pointing towards the promise that Square Enix has learned from criticism surrounding the combat-only boss fights which marred the flexible choose-your-path nature of Human Revolution.
No release date has yet been provided, but the company has confirmed that the game will be available on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. More details have been promised in a live-stream scheduled for this evening, information on which is available at the
official website.
