Developers at Eidos Montreal are apparently trying very hard to cultivate a strong sense of atmosphere and ambience in the upcoming
Deus Ex 3, citing
System Shock as a major influence and attempting to draw on the success of
BioShock.
The news comes from a preview on a
Czech website, according to
Eurogamer. The preview apparently says that
Deus Ex 3 is going for a more striking cyberpunk theme than ever before, with the main theme being how man is driven to outdo nature and improve himself.
The game will also apparently include a wealth of gameplay improvements and tweaks, with enemy squads having specific leaders who can be assassinated to cause confusion in the remaining ranks. AI will also update itself over time to try and counter player tactics however, such as protecting squad leaders more. Players will be able to use a cover-system as well as bionic implants to give themselves an edge however.
Several locations have been confirmed for the game too, which will act as a prequel to the first
Deus Ex and center around a character called Adam Jensen. Shanghai, Detroit and Montreal are all listed as included levels.
One key location for players is said to be Adam's apartment, which players will be able to explore over time. Eidos Montreal has apparently littered the flat with hidden areas and story snippets to reward exploring players.
For the first time in the series there'll also be implants and upgrades that will affect how players can engage in dialogue too, with a number of different NPCs to try them out on - including women who want to seduce you.
Deus Ex 3 is currently in production for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 - but does it sound any good to you, or is it just
Invisible War all over again? Let us know your thoughts in
the forum.
