Crytek is reportedly suffering from financial woes once again, with statements from multiple alleged and at least one verified employee claiming that the company hasn't made payroll for the last six months.
Best known for its CryEngine game engine and the Crysis series of games which use it, Crytek has not been having a happy few years. Its Xbox One launch title Ryse
did not lead to a sequel, while rumours that the company has been in financial distress
began in 2014 with
disturbing reports from its employees. In July 2014 Crytek
claimed to have secured capital which would keep the company afloat,
selling its Homefront IP to Deep Silver as part of the deal. In April 2015 it looked like
cash from Amazon could save the company, but reports of its financial struggles are now back and worse than ever.
An
anonymous Imgur poster from someone alleging to be a Crytek staff member has published a series of images claiming that Crytek has failed to pay its employees for the last six months. '
Crytek hasn't paid me (or my coworkers) for almost 6 months,' the poster has claimed. '
I'm not sure where else to turn at this point. This has happened in the past a few times, but never for this long. Management never gives anyone a heads up, and it isn’t clear to me if they are getting paid or even informed from the owners. The last time this happened we were told it would be the last time and yet it is happening again. Many of my co-workers moved from out of the country to work here and are unable to leave because they cannot afford to get back home due to their wages being withheld for so long.'
While the original poster's identity has not been verified, another employee verified as working at Crytek's Frankfurt office has spoken to
KitGuru confirming the report, with a further alleged staff member taking to the comments section with claims that '
The situation in Crytek is very bad, I would say dramatic. People don't believe the management anymore. People are now very angry at the management and even HR. The first problems this year appeared when salaries for June 2016 were late. People are leaving, handing out letters to HR to state they will not work if the money will not arrive.'
Crytek has not publicly commented on the reports.
