The next game in the long-running Total War historical strategy series has been announced as Total War: Atilla.
Set in 395 AD during the last days of the Roman Empire and the preamble to the Dark Ages, the title will give players the opportunity to either save or destroy the Romans as Atilla the Hun emerges into the arena of history.
This new iteration of the Total War series will improve the street-fighting mechanics, introduce settlement destruction and includes dynamic fire modelling which spreads throughout battle in an effort to bring the setting to life.
In addition to the new features, Atilla will also bring back family trees and skill trees for generals, something that the series has abandoned in more recent titles and that fans of the series have asked to come back.
’We will create a Total War game that will challenge and enthrall fans of the series,’ said Total War: Atilla project lead Janos Gaspar. ‘We want to push players to the limits of their skill to survive against the odds, and to love every minute of it.’
Total War: Atilla is due for release on PC and Mac in February 2015.
The most recent title in the Total War series was Rome 2, which saw a lukewarm critical reception thanks to several bugs and poor AI implementation.
