Warner Bros. have officially thrown in the towel on Batman: Arkham Knight's Windows port, following its return to the platform, and is offering buyers a no-quibbles full refund while admitting that there are bugs in the game it 'cannot fix'.
The latest in the Batman: Arkham franchise, the Windows port of the game has proven an absolute nightmare for publisher Warner Bros. Game-crashing and performance-sapping bugs were so bad at launch that the company
withdrew the game from sale in the face of a flood of one-star reviews, working on
several patches before
relaunching it late last month with the promise that all was well. Sadly, the promise proved empty: those who have installed the latest version of the game are still finding it buggy and badly-performing, especially compared with the far smoother and less troublesome console ports.
To placate fans, Warner Bros. has
announced that it is offering anyone who bought the Windows release a full and unconditional refund, regardless of how long they have played the game. '
We are very sorry that many our customers continue to be unhappy with the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight. We worked hard to get the game to live up to the standard you deserve, but understand that many of you are still experiencing issues,' a company spokesperson claimed. '
Until the end of 2015, we will be offering a full refund on Batman: Arkham Knight PC.'
The refund offer includes money spent on the Season Pass for downloadble content, but only if returned with the game as a bundle. It also currently only affects those who purchased the game through Steam; the company has yet to detail how those who purchased it at retail - not an option in the UK thanks to a
digital-only release - or through alternative distribution services can take advantage of the offer.
'
For those of you that hold onto the game,' the spokesperson added, '
we are going to continue to address the issues that we can fix and talk to you about the issues that we cannot fix' - suggesting that there are fundamental issues which are not going to get better any time soon, even as the company pledges to release ports of the game on OS X and Linux early next year.
