Hear that noise? It's No Man's Sky being given a release date.
The June 2016 release date was announced during Sony's Paris Games Week press event. Rumours were floating around earlier this week (despite denials from the game's staff) that it might sneak out into this week, so the news of a June 2016 will disappoint some but at least put the rumours to bed.
No Man's Sky was originally announced back in 2013, and quickly captured the imaginations of many with the idea of it's functionally unlimited shared universe. Players are turned loose amongst the stars and credited for everything they encounter first, although as the universe is, again, infinite there will be plenty for everyone.
There's also a new gameplay trailer, which is great for those of us that have been asking for a few months now: what is the point of No Man's Sky? The trailer focusses on the exploration aspects, but it still looks pretty, and there's a brief firefight with lasers too.
Ignoring my continual annoyance at lasers being used in firefights (solid ammunition is just much more practical), there's lot to be excited about here. Hopefully we'll see more of the game in final approach to launch.
