Nintendo has confirmed that it is to launch its next-generation games console, codenamed 'NX,' in March 2017 - and that it will not be showing the hardware off at the Electronics Entertainment Expo.
Rumours of Nintendo's upcoming NX console have been circulating for considerable time, even to the point of claiming that the company would be ceasing production of the current-generation Wii U at the end of the year in order to better concentrate on its replacement - something Nintendo has denied. Claims ranging from it being a hand-held device through to a top-end under-TV console boasting twice the compute performance of Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox One have been bandied around, but Nintendo itself has been tight-lipped on the matter - until now.
Although Nintendo has yet to confirm specifications for the NX, it has gone public with a launch date. During the company's latest financial report, the company confirmed that it is 'current developing a gaming platform codenamed 'NX' with a brand-new concept,' and that the NX 'will be launched in March 2017 globally.' At the same time, the company also confirmed that the latest entry in the Zelda franchise, originally scheduled to launch last year, would hit the NX as well as the current Wii U.
Sadly, Nintendo has no plans to show off the NX platform - whatever the 'brand-new concept' may finally turn out to be - at the E3 show, according to a report from Takashi Mochizuki.
