A new God of War game is being developed according to director of God of War 2, Cory Barlog.
Barlog made what appears to be an accidental announcement during the Playstation Experience conference at the weekend. During a God of War retrospective discussion panel, the director stated
’Yes, we are making another God of War’.
The comment was recorded in a tweet sent out by Santa Monica Studio that has since been deleted. A second tweet was however left up by the developer saying
’don’t tell anyone what @corybarlog just said’ followed by a God of War hashtag.
Reporting on the conference,
IGN also confirmed the announcement and added that Barlog also said that the new God of War game would not be a prequel. Other than that, details are limited.
God of War has been one of Sony’s most successful Playstation exclusive franchises. Created by popular lead David Jaffe, the first entry in the series was released on the Playstation 2 back in 2005.
Overall, the series has sold more than 21 million copies with the most recent game in the series being God of War Ascension, released in 2013. A film adaptation of the game was in the works but as of 2012, the project is still in ticking along with a budget of $150m, but has been left without a director.
