The
Independent Games Festival is a yearly event which sees some of the best and brightest indie developers come forward to compete for a series of prizes. The event is a massive event for gamers on a budget as the vast majority of games on the list can be freely downloaded, allowing gamers to throw their own opinions in the pot along with the expert judges.
The finalists for this year have just been announced. While there are a few games which have predictably made the final cut, there are a number of surprises too - both in terms of games on the list and games that aren't.
Crayon Physics Deluxe has proved to be a very popular game this year and has been entered for the Seumas McNally Grand Prize, which has a cash payout of $20,000 for the winner. The game sees players trying to solve puzzles by drawing shapes into the game levels and is one of the favourites to win this year.
World of Goo, a tower building game with cartoony graphics has also made the list.
The winners still won't be announced until the end of February and you can check the full list of finalists, as well as download most of them, over at
the official site.
We ran
our own feature on the various entrants for this years festival not long ago, looking at what we thought were some of the best games on the list. While some of our predictions have come true though, it seems others have not.
Penumbra: Overture hasn't made the finalists list, for example - not even in the Technical Excellence category.
Are you as shocked as we are, or were our predictions way off to start with? Let us know what you think
