Haze writer Rob Yescombe has responded to poor initial reviews of Free Radical Design's PS3 first person shooter from review site IGN. IGN writer Jeff Haynes gave Haze just 4.5 in an early review of the game.
IGN's score has raised more than a few eyebrows though as the IGN user review system ranks the game at a more respectable 7.1 out of 10. The review picks on the plot of the game especially, which casts players as a chemically enhanced soldier in the private army of a powerful corporation.
Rob Yescombe however has likened the release of Haze to GoldenEye for the Nintendo 64, which was developed by many of the same team behind Free Radical Design.
"My thoughts are 'Owch'. No, wait - 'MEGAowch'," Yescombe told PSU.
"Haze has had mixed reviews, but even GoldenEye got a 4/10 when it first came out. With a 9/10 in the Italian PSM, and an extremely positive review in Famitsu, we're looking forward to people playing Haze and making a judgement for themselves."
Scores for the game have indeed been very varied, with the infamously critical Famitsu awarding 34/40, Gamespot scoring the game as 6/10 and GameSpy issuing a score of only 40 percent. Our own review will be out in the next day or two.
