Quirky fantasy hack and slash RPG Dragon's Dogma is getting the online treatment in a new free to play game being developed by Capcom.
Dragon's Dogma Online will feature the same action RPG style gameplay as its
offline predecessor but will allow teams of four to group up and fight monsters, with that group being composed either of other human players or AI-controlled pawns.
The structure of the world will be similar to the Korean style instanced MMOs with towns used as matchmaking lobbies whilst the formed groups get their own specific private area to fight in.
The game will be free to download and play and will be supported by a micro-transaction economy allowing players to buy additional items for their characters.
Dragon's Dogma Online is due for a 2015 release and is at present being developed for the Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and PC. The project is being headed up by Kent Kinoshita, the producer of the original Dragon's Dogma, which was first released in 2012.
Dragon's Dogma Online will be considered by Capcom as a canonical sequel to the original title, picking up from the ending of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, an expanded release of Dragon's Dogma that included all previously released DLC and a new area for players to explore.
