Double Fine has unveiled a music-driven challenge game powered by 3D motion control device, the Leap Motion Controller.
Dropchord is being developed by the same team behind Double Fine's Kinect Party and will ship on Mac, PC and iOS devices later this year. Through the use of the controller, players will play Dropchord through moving their hands and fingers in the air.
The Leap Motion Controller is a small hand-held sensor that can detect individual hand and finger movements. It is shipping on May 13 and can currently be pre-ordered for $79.99.
'When we first tried the Leap Motion Controller, it blew our minds,' said Double Fine community manager Chris Remo. 'After we painstaking reassembled our minds (it was a messy day), we started making a game for it.'
The studio is also working with and being supported by Dracogen Strategic Investments, which has previously supported Double Fine in its adventure game Kickstarter project, its iOS management title Middle Manager of Justice and in bringing Costume Quest over to Steam.
Dropchord will debut at South by Southwest over the weekend with a playable demo being offered up to attendees of PAX East later this month.
Double Fine's other high profile music-fuelled game, Brutal Legend, was recently released on PC, three years after its launch on consoles.
