PC classic Descent has been brought back to life in a Kickstarter pitch aiming to reboot the space-sim FPS hybrid.
Descent Underground is looking for $600,000 for the project and has already raised more than one sixth of this with 30 days left to go.
The new version of Descent will be created in Unreal Engine 4 and will feature several different types of customisable ships, upgradable weapons, voxel-based destructible terrain and multiplayer modes. The developers also intend to ship modding tools with the finished game.
'We are designing and building this game to allow maximum community collaboration. Backers will be able to build their own maps, ships, logos, and weapons,' reads the Kickstarter pitch. 'Build something cool, submit it, and we may introduce it into the greater universe.'
The project is being handled by Descendant Games, the new studio of Cloud Imperium Games' former president of production and development Eric Peterson. Peterson left the Star Citizen studio four months ago.
Also involved is Galacitc Inquiry creator Michael Morlan. Galactic Inquiry is a webshow for Star Citizen fans and the Kickstarter pitch explains that a similar show for Descent: Underground is in the works.
The original Descent was first released in 1994 and spawned two sequels.
