Oh yes! This was what we were hoping for. NCSoft, publishers of City of Villains, have announced that the upcoming 'evil twin' to City of Heroes will be available for the same monthly fee.
Let's run through the logistics of that. You already have City of Heroes, and you pay £8.99 a month to play it. If you want to get into City of Villains, all you have to do is pay the £30 for the boxed copy of the game and you can play it online for the same £8.99 a month.
Or, put it the other way. You don't have either game, and you think you might want to try it. Get City of Villains, pay £8.99 a month and play that game. If you like it, go and pick up City of Heroes in the bargain basement for £20 or whatever, and you can play that too.
Whichever way you look at it, this is a stonking deal for online gamers.
What would have been awful was if CoH cost £8.99 and CoV cost
another £8.99. Thankfully, NCSoft have avoided that one.
CoV is still on course to hit the shelves sometime at the end of October, according to our latest information. We've been playing the beta like crazy, and it's really, really good. Look forward to our full review of the game very soon.
