Indie darling Castle Crashers has announced its Steam launch date as September 26, only 4 years after it was first launched on Xbox Live Arcade. The version will be playable on PC and Mac.
The Behemoth's colourful homage to side-scrolling brawlers' Steam version will include integrated voice chat, Steam Cloud support, Steam achievements and multiplayer.
The multiplayer mode will include online and local versions and all of the content from the various console versions will be making its way to the PC and Mac. This includes all of the unlockable weapons and an 'Insane Mode' difficulty on the campaign.
On the run up to its launch, the developer will be giving away free Steam codes for the game and Castle Crashers merchandise in a series of competitions and 'random internet shenanigans' according to a post on The Behemoth's blog.
The Steam version was initially announced last month during Gamescon with a playable build featuring at the Penny-Arcade Expo in Seattle alongside The Behemoth's other upcoming title, Battleblock Theater.
Castle Crashers first released in 2008 and was one of the first XBLA games to see significant success. It also received a PS3 release in 2010 and has sold more than 2.7 million units across both consoles to date.
The Behemoth's much anticipated follow-up title, Battleblock Theater, does not currently have a confirmed release date, but the developers announced that the coding for it was completed back in July on the run up to the San Diego Comic-Con.
