Treyarch has confirmed that it will soon release PC modding tools for Call of Duty: Black Ops, enabling gamers to create their own gameplay tweaks.
The confirmation comes from Treyarch's Community Manager, Josh Olin, who remarked on
Twitter today that Treyarch is hoping to have the mod tools out at some point next month.
Neither Treyarch nor Activision has yet offered any further details about how deep the mod tools will go, but given that Activision recently announced a new map pack, we'd be surprised if a level editor was included.
Treyarch and Activision initially promised
modding support for Call of Duty: Black Ops way back in August 2010, but nothing has been announced since then.
'
There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the modtools paradigm,' Treyarch explained back in August.
