The developers behind the enhanced editions of Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 have announced they are working on a brand new entry to the series set between the two games.
Developer Beamdog intends to bridge the gap between the two classic RPGs with its new game. In order to keep the same look and feel of the originals, the project will continue to use the Infinity engine like it's predecessors, meaning it will once again be an isometric hack and slash style RPG.
At present, the game is simply dubbed 'Adventure Y' and further details will be announced in the spring of this year.
Beamdog also announced that it has another project lined up after the Baldur's Gate midquel as well but didn't want to share too much about that.
'It exists and it's a departure for us in terms of what we've done in the past,' wrote a Beamdog spokesperson. 'Also, the project might involve sharks.'
Whatever the nature of this follow up project, Beamdog does confirm that it is not Baldur's Gate 3 or a fifth edition Dungeons and Dragons project, but also that the studio hasn't ruled out doing something along these lines in the future.
The enhanced editions of Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 were developed as tablet ports and released in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Versions were also made available on PC, Mac and Linux systems and both titles launched to a warm critical reception. Many outlets commented on how well the Baldur's Gate games have aged, despite how much the games industry has changed since the first game was released in 1998.
