Activision has announced a new Spider-Man game, called Spider-Man: Edge of Time, for release later this year on PC, Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Developed by Beenox, who also worked on the recent Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions game that was also published by Activision, Edge of Time is set to be a third-person action platforming game.

The plot for Edge of Time will revolve around both the mainsteam Marvel interpretation of Spider-Man and the Marvel 2099 version - a superhero from an alternate timeline. Working together across different continuities, the Spider-Men must prevent the death of Peter Parker, who can then help 2099's Spider-Man avert a disaster.

The gameplay will apparently be built on a new cause-and-effect feature which sees the heroes able to affect each others worlds by wreaking changes on their own.
