As if Rockstar weren't in the news enough at the moment with all the hubbub surrounding the upcoming release of 'Bully', an
interesting article has popped up on Eurogamer concerning the 'exclusivity' of special content for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV.
If you remember a few months ago, Microsoft announced that there would be exclusive content, expanding the game by many hours, available to purchase through Xbox Live. However, an undisclosed source close to Rockstar has told Eurogamer that in fact there will also be exclusive, different content available solely to PS3 owners.
Apparently this bonus content will come in the form of brand new areas for both the 360 and the PS3. The source explained it like this: "Think of the world as a large island - the new downloadable areas will be like smaller islands linking into it."
At the moment the implication is that the game has been designed with room to allow many future updates, probably quite similar to how Bethesda developed Oblivion. What this might mean for console gamers though is a lot less appealing. To get the full GTA IV experience it looks like you will need to own both a 360 and PS3 as well as two different copies of the same game. Quite frankly, that would be a bit naff.
No word as of yet whether GTA IV will be coming to PC, which means it will probably be released a few months after it comes out for the consoles (16th October 2007 for the 360). One reason you may want to hold out for the PC version will be to get your hands on all of the 'exclusive' content… We'll have to wait and see.
