A new survey suggests that more and more of us are damaging our digits by texting up to 100 messages a day.

The survey, by Virgin mobile, suggests that there are 38% more of us reporting problems with Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) than 5 years ago, with RSI in the fingers being blamed on the boom in SMS text messaging.

Apparently, 12% of those surveyed send up to 20 texts a day, although we're not exactly sure what the age group surveyed was. We can certainly imagine that the collective texts of any high school in the country can number in the thousands per day.

Latest figures suggest that 93 million SMS messages zip across the UK every day.

Later this year, operators in the UK are set to introduce a cross-platform instant messaging network which will allow users to take advantage of the always-on internet connections in most phones sold today to continually chat to each other throughout the day.
