UK etailer Aria has announced a £15,000 reward for information leading to the successful prosection of the individual or group behind an ongoing distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack on its website.
Aria
announced yesterday that its site was under attack from persons unknown, who are understood to be carrying out a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) with a demand for Bitcoin payment for its cessation. Rather than pay the ransom, the company has instead put £15,000 on the line for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person or persons responsible.
The company is the first UK etailer to step forward and announce the DDoS ransom attack as the reason for its recent site outages, which have also been noted to affect rival companies including Scan and CCL and which are believed to be the result of attacks by the same individual or group.
The bounty comes a year after company founder and chief executive officer Aria Taheri launched a similar appeal with a £10,000 reward, of which only £1,000 was paid out to the two who provided the information leading to two North London raids. The reason for the significantly lower-than-promised payout, the company claimed at the time, was due to the police opting not to prosecute the two arrestees.
