It seems ABC has buckled under the weight of demand for its IPTV-with-ads online offering.
The service launched on Tuesday, and reports are of outages amounting to around two hours as the servers got a complete pummelling from enthusiastic punters.
ABC is offering some of its top shows - including
Lost, Desperate Housewives and
Alias - for download the day after the shows air on the American network. It is using IP address lookups to restrict viewing to US surfers.
The shows contain 30-second interactive advertising spots in the middle, as well as an introductory 'sponsored by' message. ABC already puts its shows out on Apple's iTunes Music Store, where they can be downloaded for $1.99 with no ads.
ABC said it was unaware of any outages in its service, which rather suggests a 'Deny Everything' policy.
