Twelve new security patches for Microsoft's Windows and Office family have been released in the Redmond giant's monthly bunch of fixes, but this month makes the heaviest delivery since February 2005, when 8 critical fixes were launched forth.
9 of the 12 patches are for the Windows family, to fix a total of 21 vulnerabilities, 19 of which are to fill the holes in remote control of a user's computer. 19 is a massive number but this is the reason for the large security updates.
Critical vulnerability locations include Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player and Microsoft Word, all of which are major programs in use every day across homes and businesses.
Expect more fixes from Microsoft going forward, as new holes in products continue to be discovered. The firm has recently announced the discontinuation of support and security updates for Windows 95 and 98, leaving users of the older OS' in dire straits.
